DOES IT INVALIDATE OUR FAITH IF WE CANNOT ANSWER MANY QUESTIONS?

How do we answer the skeptics that ask us questions that we cannot answer? In fact, there are many questions we can’t answer, at least not with any confidence or comprehensiveness. Here are some favorites:

·       Where did Cain’s wife come from?

·       How can God be eternal?

·       How can He be all-knowing but yet we have the freedom to act in a way that He knows we will not act?

·       Can God create a rock He cannot move?
How can God be One and yet Three Persons?

Does it invalidate our faith if we can’t answer these questions in a satisfying way? Certainly not! The Bible even warns us that we don’t have the whole picture, that we only see in part (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Now let’s turn the tables and ask, “Does it invalidate science if science can’t answer the basic questions like, “What is light, matter, time, or space?” Certainly not! Instead, we’d all agree that science has been able to answer many very important questions even if it remains in the dark about many others.

Therefore, it is not reasonable that Christians should not be able to answer every question posed to them. Instead, it should be enough to respond, “I can’t answer this question. Perhaps someone else can. If you are interested, I can get back to you.” We can also inquire of God, who provides liberally when we ask for wisdom (James 1:5).
