IS ETERNAL JUDGMENT JUST FOR NOT BELIEVING IN GOD?

Many skeptics ridicule the idea of an eternal judgment based upon not believing in “some god.” On one level this makes complete sense. This promised judgment seems to be entirely undeserving and, therefore, completely unjust. How could God blame us for not believing in Him if there had been no adequate reasons to believe?

Today, one atheist wrote to me that, "No one will be damned eternally for not believing in some God..." I responded:

“You wrote with great passion. What you are saying makes sense if the evidence of God is unavailable to us. However, according to the Bible, we are not ignorant of the evidence. We simply choose to banish it from our minds and to reject our Creator:

·       For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Romans 1:18-20)

This demonstrates that we prefer the lie over the truth. Our lies allow us to live “free” from the truths of God and His just wrath, which have been also implanted into our conscience. Here's how Jesus explained the judgment of
God:

·       "And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed." (John 3:19-20)

This is what the “judgment” looks like - We damn ourselves through our hatred and rejection of the Light and our refusal to come to the Light. If we reject the Light of Truth here, we will certainly reject and flee from the Light in the next world where it is inescapable, even perhaps to choose death and annihilation rather than to live in the Light.

Please pray about this and ask for the truth, not for what feels comforting to you.”
