CORRECTING THE CHARGE THAT THE BIBLE IS MISOGYNISTIC

 

 

Many accuse that the Biblical Faith is misogynistic, although some misuse the Bible in misogynistic ways. Below, I address with Scripture the first four points one Bible critic issued:

 

1. Women brought sin and death into the world.

 

·       THE MAN WAS EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE: “For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:21-22)

 

2. Women are to blame for the fall of the human race.

 

·       ADAM HAD ABDICATED HIS RESPONSIBILITY: “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was WITH HER, and he ate.”(Genesis 3:6)

 

3. Women are inferior to men.

 

·       Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

 

·       Galatians 3:26, 28 “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith…There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

 

4. Women were intended to be subservient to men.

 

·       JESUS REGARDED THE SERVANT ROLE OF THE WOMAN AS SUPERIOR: “The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:11-12)

 

·       THE DEMAND ON MALE SERVANT-HOOD IS GREATER: “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”(Ephesians 5:25-28)

 

·       MEN ARE SPECIFICALLY WARNED AGAINST MISTREATING THEIR WIVES: “Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)

 

It is therefore no surprise that women had received the highest degree of respect and protection in the previously Christian West.
