ABORTION, MURDER, AND THE BIBLE

“The Christian Left Blog” seems to have an agenda when it comes to abortion. Against all the evidence to the contrary, it tries to make the case that the Bible teaches that the baby is not living until birth, when it takes its first breath and, therefore can be aborted:

·       Many people think that a human being is created at the time of conception but this belief is not supported by the bible. The fact that a living sperm penetrates a living ovum resulting in the formation of a living fetus does not mean that the fetus is a living human being. According to the bible, a fetus is not a living person with a soul until after drawing its first breath. After God formed man in Genesis 2:7, He “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and it was then that the man became a living being”. Although the man was fully formed by God in all respects, he was not a living being until after taking his first breath. http://www.thechristianleftblog.org/blog-home/the-bible-tells-us-when-a-fetus-becomes-a-living-being?fbclid=IwAR36vrAgY815cViWnwRE5nFdq5kkeRs4pd5X3kSUA2gu8-09hpz-51EdhIU

Although this was true for Adam, who did not emerge from a womb, there is no reason for this to be true for the rest of us who had been gradually formed within the womb:

·       “Listen to me [God], O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from before your birth, carried from the womb.” (Isa 46:3; 44:2)

They belonged to God. He had borne them. Clearly, even before we took our first breath, God shows us that He has an overriding interest in us, as He had informed the Prophet Jeremiah:

·       “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139:13)

He had a plan for us even before we were born:

·       For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10; 1:4)

If God had had a plan for our lives even before we were born, we are precious to Him and should not be subject to the evil plans of men. Our Creator regards Himself as our Father, even while we were still in the womb, according to a song God had given Moses to teach to Israel:

·       “Do you thus repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?” (Deuteronomy 32:6)

Consequently, God is our Father even before we take our first breath, and if He is our Father, we have absolutely no right to snuff out the lives of the children He has entrusted to us. Nor is there any reason to regard abortion as an exception to the commandment against murder: “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). What is in the womb is a human life:

·       “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm [to the newborn], the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman’s husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm [to the newborn], then you shall pay life for life.” (Exodus 21:22-23)

If the baby dies, then the perpetrator must also die. Why? Even if the baby is only a few months after conception, it is still a human life and has the same legal rights, in God’s sight, as has any human life created in the likeness of God.

This story conveys the simple truth that the pre-born is still a precious human life. A poor tailor, who already had five children, dropped his wife off at the abortionist on the way to his tailor shop. When he returned for her at the end of the day, she still hadn’t been seen by the abortionist. Therefore, they decided to return home. Months later, the wife gave birth to their third son, whom they called “Milton,” and Milton and his wife gave birth to their firstborn, Daniel Mann.
