Racism is an abomination in all its forms. It makes all the members of a people-group guilty for the crimes of just some of its member. It is a betrayal and rejection of justice and the principles of democratic society.
I rarely call anyone an anti-Semite unless there are solid and
objective reasons for this. However, when someone expresses their hatred for all
Jews and then claims that the modern-day Jews have not descended from the Jews
of the Bible but from a Russian people-group, I think we’ve found an anti-Semite.
But how do we answer them? I used to merely tell them that
my parents can tell from which tribe they have descended. It’s been passed on
from generation to generation. However, this isn’t strong evidence. However,
DNA studies can provide that kind of evidence. According to Wikipedia:
·
Genetic studies on Jews are part of the
population genetics discipline and are used to better understand the chronology
of migration provided by research in other fields, such as history,
archaeology, linguistics, and paleontology. These studies investigate the
origins of various Jewish populations today. In particular, they investigate
whether there is a common genetic heritage among various Jewish populations.
Studies of autosomal DNA, which look at the entire DNA mixture, show that
Jewish populations have tended to form relatively closely related groups in
independent communities with most in a community sharing significant ancestry.
For populations of the Jewish diaspora, the genetic composition of Ashkenazi,
Sephardi, and Mizrahi Jewish populations show significant amounts of shared
Middle Eastern ancestry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_studies_on_Jews
This might not convert the hatred of anti-Semites, but it
will help to silence them, a wide assortment spewing the words of anti-Semitism.
Islamic holy writings are full of anti-Semitic remarks:
·
“Jews are
those who were cursed and transformed into apes and swine…” (Sura 2:65, 5:60,
7:166). “Jews are the worst of Allah’s creation…” (Sura 8:55-56, 98:6)
There are even those who call themselves “Christian,” although
I haven’t met any of them, who even cite the Bible to justify their hatred.
However, they conveniently skip over the many verses that condemn their hatred:
·
But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness
and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the
darkness has blinded his eyes. (1 John 2:11)
Even if they deny that Jews are their brethren, there are
many other verses which should awaken them:
·
And in this way all Israel will be saved…For the
gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. (Romans 11:26, 29)
However, hate is unwilling to listen to reason, even to the
words of the Scriptures.
