CAN A CHRISTIAN ADOPTION AGENCY REMAIN FAITHFUL YET PLACE CHILDREN IN A NON-TRADITIONAL FAMILY?

Should a Christian agency comply with the law by placing children in homosexual or transgendered families? One professedly Christian agency has little problem with complying. They have even agreed to partner with an LGBT office to train their staff regarding “cultural competency for serving individuals and same-sex couples who are LGBTQ.”

  • A well-known professing Christian charity has agreed to work with homosexuals seeking to foster or adopt children after its contract with the City of Philadelphia was suspended for a time due to its policies on child placement.
  • According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bethany Christian Services of Greater Delaware Valley has agreed to comply with the City’s nondiscrimination laws and has partnered with Mayor Jim Kenney’s Office of LGBT Affairs to train staff regarding “cultural competency for serving individuals and same-sex couples who are LGBTQ.”
  • “Our faith calls us to work with vulnerable children and families, and therefore, it is important that Christians remain in this space,” Bethany Christian Services said in a statement. “To that end, while we will remain compliant with the law, we also remain committed to our Christian beliefs and core values.”http://christianresearchnetwork.org/2018/07/09/professing-christian-foster-adoption-agency-agrees-to-place-children-with-homosexuals-to-comply-with-philadelphia-law/

There are two ways to answer this question - one from the perspective of God and the other from man. For one thing, it seems counter-biblical to require Christian staff to submit to LGBTQ teachings. God has an overriding concern about what goes into our heads and influences our beliefs. It is hardly worth citing verses in this regard, because we find them throughout Scripture (Revelation 2).

Besides, we are forbidden to give our brethren any encouragement to violate their beliefs:

  • For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?...Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. ‭‭(1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:10, 12-13‬)

Nor does it seem God would be honored if we place children into a home where they will be indoctrinated against a genuine Christian faith and in favor of sexual license. Although there are gay “Christians,” at best, their lifestyle has caused them to modify the faith accordingly. In essence, they have placed their lifestyle above the Word of God and choice above repentance.

God desires godly households and godly children:

  • “Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. "For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the Lord, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless." ‭‭(Malachi‬ ‭2:15-16)

Divorce interferes with having godly children. How much more same-sex parents! The Bible does not give the slightest approval to this lifestyle, only condemnation. How then can we place the vulnerable into a culture which God condemns!

From a human and pragmatic perspective, to give the vulnerable to same-sex couples is to undermine the entire rationale behind foster care and adoption. Instead, it would be far better to leave babes with their biological parents.

Homosexuals are far more prone to suicide, attenuated lives, mental heath problems, substance abuse, STDs, and even domestic violence. Consequently, they are not good foster care candidates.

Nor would it be advisable to place children in homes where it is more likely that they would adopt this highly self-destructive lifestyle. For a Christian agency to do so is to betray their Christian calling. It will also lead to an endless series of compromises. Better to just shut down!
