The God-of-the-Gaps argument is often used to discount the
existence GOD. It insists that the more science explains, the less need that
there will be for a Divine explanation. Therefore, as science continues to fill
the existing gaps with knowledge, a belief in God will become completely
unnecessary.
However, this faulty reasoning depends upon a faulty
understanding of science and God. It needlessly opposes the two without any
justification. Instead, it can be reasoned that every scientific finding rests
upon the existence of the Creator, who is also the Sustainer.
Our theistic proofs do not depend in the slightest upon the
ignorance of science. Even if science did know everything, this would not
discount God. Why not? All scientific findings depend upon the elegant and
manifestly designed and sustained laws of science and every particle within the
range of science. And let’s not forget about the unvarying laws of logic and
our magnificently designed minds.
We, therefore, cannot separate the Creator from His
creation, which sings out “Made by the Creator.” Even the voice of science can
be heard among this universal choir of praise.
