How important is apologetics. According to the late defender
of the Christian faith, C.S. Lewis, it’s very important:
·
Nearly everyone I know who has embraced
Christianity in adult life has been influenced by what seemed to him to be at
least probable arguments for Theism…Even quite uneducated people who have been
Christians all their lives not infrequently appeal to some simplified form of
the Argument from Design. (God in the
Dock, 173)
This doesn’t mean that we are saved through a good argument.
Instead, Lewis’ observations testify to the fact that God uses evidences to
save and to build His Church. In fact, the Bible records many instances of
this:
·
He presented himself alive to them after his
suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking
about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)
The Apostles had abandoned their faith and needed these
proofs, and so do we.
