All forms of sexual practice are now militantly promoted,
whether by the mainstream media or by big business. For example:
·
Target is also donating $100,000 to the Gay,
Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN), an organization whose primary focus
in on indoctrinating school-aged students into organizing "gay" clubs
in public schools across the nation. https://www.afa.net/activism/action-alerts/2019/target-stores-donating-100-000-to-promote-gay-lifestyle-to-school-children/?fbclid=IwAR1C-I3pFAcf29BhLP2BnnDMu5Vmpd4gzu0shkWuvhHvFRVG8k2YEB86RBE
Libraries are hosting drag queens to speak to the smallest
children to undermine traditional sexual categories, while schools are making
bathrooms and locker-room showers accessible to any sex. Meanwhile, pornography
has enslaved its captives from all ages and walks of life.
I am especially concerned because sexualization also brings
with it the silencing and denigrating of any opposing voices:
·
But false prophets also arose among the people,
just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in
destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon
themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and
because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they
will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not
idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (2 Peter 2:1-3 ESV)
The pursuit of alternative sexual lifestyles seems to always
be associated with “destructive heresies” and opposition to the truth. Why? As
faith and belief influences behavior, behavior and lifestyle also influence
faith and belief. The way we live is the way we believe, especially concerning
sexual matters. But why must sex promoters (SPs) hate and denigrate “the way of
truth?” Why can’t they simply adopt a “live and let live” policy? As many who
have escaped from the grips of alternative forms of sexuality have admitted, they
knew that what they had been practicing was wrong, and they were tormented by
it. Consequently, SPs “despise authority” and “blaspheme the glorious ones
[angels],” anything that might awaken a sense of guilt:
·
…the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from
trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise
authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious
ones. (2 Peter 2:9-10)
Why do they despise and blaspheme? For one thing, they
despise themselves and project their self-hatred especially on those who
maintain moral standards in opposition to their own. Consequently, Christians,
those committed to love, are despised more than others. For another thing, they
intuitively know that they deserve righteous judgment:
·
Though they know God’s righteous decree that
those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give
approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:32)
·
And when he [the Holy Spirit] comes, he will
convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. (John 16:8)
“Insatiable?” Just ask any adulterer or porn addict about
freedom from their addictions:
·
But these, like irrational animals, creatures of
instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which
they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction…They are blots
and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They
have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls.
They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! (2 Peter 2:12-14)
Not only are such addicts self-deceived, they also are “reveling
in their deceptions” of others:
·
For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice
by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who
live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of
corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (2 Peter
2:18-19)
If SPs are comfortable within themselves, why are they even
trying to make converts, even among children? As they experience angst, knowing
that many disagree with them, they are correspondingly comforted by the fact
that growing numbers agree.
In light of all of this, what should love require of us? One
friend and former student related that she used to party with her gay friends,
never speaking a work of disagreement. However, she began to reassess as she
saw the horrible price they were paying for their lifestyle (Romans 1/27; 1
Corinthians 6:18), their premature deaths and other costs. In the light of the
Scriptures, she came to see that she was wrong and that Christian love required
her to warn instead of indulge.
However, the Christian has no justification at all to look
down on others. Without the grace of the Lord, we would also be living
self-destructive lifestyles. Even with His grace, daily, we struggle against
sins of which we mourn. Instead, we owe all others the same love by which Christ
loves us.
