The theory that the universe had always existed - the Steady
State Theory - had been popular because it seemingly eliminated the need for a
Creator. However, there are many reasons that it had been decisively
overthrown:
•
It contradicts the present cosmological evidence
for Big Bang cosmology.
•
It is illogical. It means that time always
existed. If so, it would mean that an infinite number of years would have
already passed to bring us into present time - an impossibility.
•
It is unscientific. Science is predicated on the
assumption that effects have causes. An uncaused universe defies science and
suggests that everything doesn’t need a causal and scientific explanation
because it always existed.
•
It defies the law of entropy- the eventual
breakdown of everything. Therefore, the universe should have already broken
down after an infinite number of years.
•
If the universe can be eternal without cause,
then any object in it could also be uncaused, another science killer.
•
It means that there cannot ever be an adequate
explanation for anything, since there will always be a prior cause unto
infinity.
•
It fails to explain the ubiquitous appearances
of design.
•
It fails to explain what presently maintains the
universe and the immutable laws of science amid the reality of
molecules-in-motion.
Consequently, there must be a greater Cause, who transcends
the universe. Only the Creator can satisfy all these conditions. Only He can be
uncaused and eternal and serve as an all-sufficient cause.
Well, where did He come from? He alone is the First Cause
who existed eternally, without beginning and end.
