God cares intensely about the fruit of the womb:
·
Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before
I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated
you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5 ESV;)
God
also informed Israel that He had “formed you from the womb” (Isaiah 44:2).
These verses, along with many others, signify that the pre-born is not simply
our possession or even the mother’s possession. The pre-born is certainly more
than a collection of cells or an unwanted mass, as pro-abortionists maintain.
Instead, God has an intimate connection with the fruit of
the womb:
·
Did he not make them [husband and wife] one,
with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking?
Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be
faithless to the wife of your youth. “For the man who does not love his
wife but divorces her,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “covers his garment
with violence,” says the LORD of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and
do not be faithless.” (Malachi
2:15-16)
According to the Prophet Malachi, there was a reason that
God had brought man and woman together to consecrate their union – He was
seeking “Godly offspring.” Therefore, when we divorce, we violate God’s plan
and sin. When we abort this offspring, we murder the one whom God had been
seeking.
In light of this, there is no reason not to regard abortion in
the same way as murder proscribed in the Ten Commandments. Nevertheless, our
God is gloriously merciful.
