A young man just asked me a tough question: “Why did God
allow Adolph Hitler?” Here is my answer:
“Thanks for your very important question about Hitler. I
think that we can answer this question the same way that we answer a similar
question – “Why did God allow Adam and Eve to be tempted? Allowing this allowed
sin and death to enter into the world. Because God is all-knowing, He knew what
would happen. Because He is all-powerful , He could have stopped it. Why didn’t
He stop it?”
Here is the best answer we can give. I’m sorry if it is
incomplete – God allowed something bad to happen so that He could do something
much better. He allowed the Fall into sin and death because it was necessary to
bring about something better – Jesus dying for our sins and an eternity in
heaven.
In the same way, by allowing Hitler, He would bring about
something far better.
I’m sorry if this answer is very limited, but we humans
never have complete answers, especially for questions that are so great. Please
also think about these verses:
Romans 8:18-22 For I consider that
the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that
is to be revealed to us.
19
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons
of God.
20
For the creation was subjected to futility [the Fall], not willingly,
but because of him [God] who subjected it, in hope [of heaven]
21
that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption
and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God [in heaven].
22
For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the
pains of childbirth until now.
Your Brother Daniel
