ANTIFA, CHRIS CUOMO, JUSTICE, AND CHAOS

According to Fox News and the video of Monday’s edition of “Cuomo Prime Time,” the CNN host admitted that some members of Antifa:

·       … “covered their faces, confronted police and berated journalists.” Cuomo condemned their actions as “wrong,” but argued that “all punches are not equal.”

Although Cuomo claimed that Antifa’s violent actions were “wrong,” he went on to defend them:

·       “If you’re a punk who comes and starts trouble in a mask and hurt people, you’re not about any virtuous cause. You’re just somebody who’s going to be held to the standard of doing something wrong," Cuomo said. “But when someone comes to call out bigots and it gets hot, even physical, are they equally wrong as the bigot they are fighting? I argue no.”

According to Cuomo, Antifa’s violence was perpetrated for a “virtuous cause.” However, if you are a Trump non-violent supporter, you are a “bigot” and are more guilty than the Antifa fascist who just smashed your head in. If this is so, then if anyone is to be arrested, it is the pro-Trump “bigot.” What an encouragement for more Antifa violence!

Cuomo reasons that since pro-Trump bigots espouse hate, at least more than Antifa, they are fair-game. In Cuomo’s imaginary scenario, Antifa fascists are likened to “civil rights activists” who “go to war against an evil regime”:

·        “Think about it, civil rights activists, were they the same morally as the bigots, as the racists with whom they exchanged blows? Are people who go to war, against an evil regime, on the same moral ground as those they seek to stop from oppressing the weak?” Cuomo said. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/08/14/cnn-star-chris-cuomo-accused-defending-antifa-in-monologue.html

And of course, anyone who endorses the “evil regime” is also evil and deserving of Antifa’s fist.

Cuomo evidently expects us to regard him as judge and jury. He deems Antifa-ites as “freedom fighters” and Trump supporters as “evil bigots,” who deserve whatever they get. What happened to justice? Those who do violence should be arrested, charged, and have their day in court. Evidently, CNN believes that “Cuomo Prime Time” can adequately adjudicate the justice of the court. However, before the facts are in, Cuomo has already delivered his radical verdicts. Consequently, no one can trust the mainstream media.

However, mistrust doesn’t stop there. We are also growing increasingly cynical about our politicians and courts. Where are the arrests of the Antifa perpetrators of violence? Does Cuomo believe that they shouldn’t be arrested since they are pursuing his “righteous” cause? We are left with the impression that Mayors who give stand-down orders share Cuomo’s repugnant sentiments.

This is serious. When people no longer feel protected by the system and see the guilty going free, they become enraged and take the law into their own hands.

The answer to violence isn’t more violence and revenge. Instead, the Bible calls us to love and to leave the dirty work to God:

·       Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them…Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink”…Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:14-21)

We’re enabled to love because we trust that God will avenge and bring justice through the courts He has ordained (Romans 13:1-4). We also trust that even if we are killed, we go to a better place with our Lord. But what of those who lack such faith? They will pick up their weapons and violence will escalate.
